The Focus is Digital: Biorasi Reports from Molecular Med Tri-Con 2020

Digital technology’s presence in the healthcare industry continues to grow, expanding across diagnostic and therapeutic treatments in precision medicine. These advancements and innovations were on display at this year’s Molecular Med Tri-Con in San Francisco, California.

The Impact of Digital Health

The Biorasi team attending the event included Wayne Bowden, VP of Program Development, Omar Ibrahim, Ph.D. and Shawn Sternisha, Ph.D. In addition to connecting with attendees face-to-face at the Biorasi booth, the team was able to join in a broad spectrum of keynotes and other presentations.

“I really enjoyed the keynote address by Dr. Eric Topol,” said Sternisha. “It touched on a little bit of everything, including the incorporation of AI and machine learning into the healthcare landscape. This ranged from improved accuracy in identifying heart conditions to portable ultrasound probes that report quality images to an enabled smartphone. Dr. Topol’s insights into the impact digital health will have on patients and payers offered a unique and encouraging perspective.”

The Virtual World

The digital therapeutics trend also permeated the conference, mixing innovations in virtual reality with guidelines for regulatory approval and reimbursement strategies.

“They presented virtual reality across multiple scenarios,” said Ibrahim. “In one setting, they discussed how dentistry is embracing the technology to create video games that teach children how to brush their teeth in a virtual world setting. In another, healthcare professionals that treat soldiers with PTSD now have access to a customized virtual environment that can be tailored to help patients move past their trauma and on with their lives and careers.”

An Immersive Event

The Biorasi team enjoyed access to many new ideas and applications at the event. It was also great to see stakeholders from across the industry working together to find solutions to 2020’s healthcare challenges.

“I was especially intrigued by the advances of machine learning into diagnostic imaging,” noted Bowden. “AI is progressing so quickly that there is now an algorithm that can recognize an individual’s sex from a single retinal image. This technology is moving very fast and growing.”
